Mr. Mukhtarul Amin, Chairman and Managing Director of Superhouse Group, is a true baton carrier of the family business, i.e., Saddlery and Leather. His grandfather Chaudhary Mohammad Amin was the first to begin manufacturing saddles for the cavalry of Scindias of Gwalior. Mr. Amin’s father, Late. Chaudhary Ehsan Karim carried on the business of manufacturing finished leather. In 1975 while Mr. Mukhtarul Amin was still an undergraduate, he joined the company, which was into manufacturing leather. He later started his own small shoe upper manufacturing unit. His vision was to establish a company of international presence and decent size in the Indian context of the leather industry. In 1986, he established his own company, Superhouse Limited. He took the company to the public, which later went in for the first public issue and became the first Leather Company to have such recognition.
Mr. Amin took the initiative to see the growth of the leather industry in India and following are the firsts which took place under his leadership –
- First to start the safety footwear exports from India
- First to make special Din Leather with German Collaboration
- First to manufacture Shoe Uppers for exporting to UK & Europe
- First to initiate the manufacturing of PU safety footwear and start exporting
His passion towards growth lead him to establish several other export units dedicated in manufacturing fashion footwear, safety footwear, leather garments and assorted leather goods at Kanpur, Unnao, Agra & Noida respectively. Other than footwear he also established textile fashion garments unit in Noida and textile safety garments unit at Unnao
Council for Leather Exports (CLE) appointed Mr. Amin as the Vice Chairman for 2 years from 2003 to 2005 and later he served CLE as the Chairman for two years from 2007 to 2009. Council for Leather Exports is an export promotional body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. During his tenure as the Chairman of the Council, Mr. Amin had the ambition to see the growth of the leather industry of India. His exemplary efforts took the exports to a level of USD 3.05 billion, recording a growth of 11.15 percent over the previous year leading to the continuous rise in exports to USD 3.54 million.
Mr. Amin was appointed as the Chairman of Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida in the year 2003 for a period of three years. FDDI is the largest footwear-training institute in the world having 7 campuses located in Kolkata / Fursatganj / Chennai / Chindwara / Rohtak / Noida and Jodhpur. It was during his tenure that the FDDI Jodhpur center was established. During the same period, he took approvals for centers in Patna and Hyderabad and got the construction work initiated.
Mr. Amin’s aim to help the leather industry in Unnao and Kanpur took him to establish a world-class Testing Laboratory and Training Centre. To achieve this, he established a company backed by the leather industry of Kanpur and Unnao, which is known as Kanpur Unnao Leather Cluster Development Company Limited. This company has taken up the establishment of a world-class Testing Laboratory and Multi Skill Development Centre in Kanpur under ASIDE Scheme.
